The Roomba from iRobot is a basic robot vacuum that is effective on both floors that are unfinished and low-pile floor carpet. It is able to suction well, but struggles with larger particles such as grains of rice or sand. It is capable of cleaning pet hair but is not as resistant to tangling as premium Roomba models like the j7 and I6.
The Roomba is simple to use. It has three buttons on the top cover. Clean, which triggers a cleaning process and 'Dock' that places it in its charging station, and 'Spot,' which activates an individualized cleaning. It can be controlled via an app for smartphones that lets you schedule cycles, stop/start them and adjust settings. You can also connect it with smart home devices such as Alexa or Google Assistant for voice-controlled operation.
This vacuum is a little slower than the others, however it's still able to reach the majority of crevices and corners. It comes with a large bin, which makes it easier to empty. It is compatible with virtual barriers and digital mapping that let you restrict it to certain areas or stop cleaning altogether if you want to keep it from getting stuck on something.
Although it's not the most efficient model in its price range, it's better than many other alternatives. The Roborock E4 is more advanced than the Roomba 694, with a much better cleaning performance for both bare and low-pile carpets. It also has a more durable battery and a better route. It also feels better-made and has fewer components that need regular maintenance, costs less to own over the course of its life, and charges faster than the 694.
It's also worth taking a look at other, more premium models within the iRobot line, like the 981 or the v7. They're more expensive, but they provide significant improvements over the 694 in terms of cleaning efficiency on both low and bare floors. The smart-pathing system of the app allows for greater maneuverability and the high-pile mode of its carpet cleaning mode is effective but it could get caught in the tassels of the rug.
During our tests, we discovered that the IQ handled pet hair well. It was able to get rid of the majority of hair on floors that were unfinished and a decent amount of medium-pile rug. It was less effective on shag carpet, where it struggled to reach dirt and dust buried in the fibers. It did a decent job of maneuvering chair legs and tight spaces, as well as the base of a wooden IKEA step stool. It was slower on flooring that was not fully covered however, it was able to recover speed and performed better than other robots we test.
The IQ is a better choice over the iRobot Roomba 694 for most applications. It has a larger dustbin and lasts longer on a charge, and is capable of moving itself around obstacles. It also comes with a mopping attachment that can tackle sticky debris. On the other hand, the iRobot is more durable, has fewer parts that require replacement or maintenance, incurs lower recurring costs and creates virtual no-go zones with its companion app. It can even resume the cleaning process from the point it started if it runs out of battery before it has completed the task. The iRobot can also be controlled using voice commands, which is a huge benefit for many users.
Eufy 11S
The RoboVac 11S robotic vacuum isn't one of the most advanced models, but it offers powerful cleaning power at a low cost. The robot can run for more than an hour and includes the remote, a cleaning tool, AC power adapter, charging base, and additional filters.
The 11S is slim and sleek and has a tempered-glass upper deck that looks like the brushed appearance of aluminum. It's a nice stylistic contrast to Roomba, Samsung, and Neato designs that are more utilitarian and industrial.
In our tests, the eufy 11S was extremely effective at removing larger debris and fine dust on hard flooring. However, it was unable to provide medium and high pile carpeting an effective deep clean. It also has a tendency to hit furniture and people in its path however, it is able to detect those obstacles using sensors. It ceases and emits a loud ring when it comes across an obstacle. It is then possible good robot vacuum to manually steer the device around the obstacle and get it to work again.
